This Family Gun Store Has to Close Up Shop Up Thanks to the Biden Regime’s War on Guns

JM Gun Repair, a family-owned gun repair shop, has become the latest victim of Gun Control Inc. The Sarasota-based gun shop was founded 46 years ago by James Morrison, a veteran gunsmith with five decades of experience.

“This has been a family legacy for 46 years,” stated James’ grandson, Noah Morrison. Noah’s father and uncle also work at the shop.

The 21-year-old member of the family had high hopes of being the next in line to inherit the operations of this family business.
However, as chief editor of the Second Amendment Foundation’s Investigative Journalism Project Lee Williams noted, these “dreams were dashed when George Hancock, an ATF Industry Operations Investigator, known as an IOI, walked into the shop at around the same time Joe Biden announced his war on ‘rogue’ gun dealers.”

“During the audit, he found faults in our paperwork,” the young adult member of the Williams family remarked. “In the past, for these types of minor faults, an auditor would have just handed us a pen and told us to fix them.”

His father, Benwayne Morrison, was in agreement.

“These were clerical errors, but they changed the definition,” he commented. “Under their new definition, they said our violations were willful. After 46 years, we never gave a gun to someone who shouldn’t have it, but that didn’t matter. None of the violations were on Biden’s ‘rogue’ gun dealer list.”

The Biden regime initially revealed its zero-tolerance policy back in June 2021. Williams observed that this scheme featured five criteria that Biden used to define a “rogue dealer”:

1. transferring a firearm to a prohibited person
2. failing to run a required background check
3. falsifying records, such as a firearms transaction form
4. failing to respond to an ATF tracing request
5. refusing to permit ATF to conduct an inspection in violation of the law

It should be stressed that the ATF is withdrawing licenses for miniscule errors, which Williams observed are “not on Biden’s five-point list.”

Williams’ SAF published a special report back in May that demonstrated how FFL revocations grew at a staggering 500%.

Starting on August 23, 2022, JM Gun Repair will no longer be able to sell or transfer firearms. Williams highlighted how the Morrison family “intends to keep the shop open, selling ammunition, reloading and black powder supplies, gear, and other accessories, but not guns or even gunsmithing services.” On their website, the Morrisons published a note announcing this controversial change.

“Our family legacy is gone,” Benwayne stated. “My father started this business. A master gunsmith is a rare breed. He can tell you the details about a gun made 100 years ago. He’s still sharp as a tack. Our family was screwed over by the ATF.”

What’s particularly heart-breaking about this case is that there was no way for the Morrison family to appeal the ATF’s order.

Benwayne attempted to receive help from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis by reaching out to his office. However, the DeSantis office said it could offer no help because it was a federal matter. Instead, DeSantis’ office directed the father to contact Florida Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott instead. The Scott office did not respond to Benwayne’s request. A Rubio assistant told Benwayne to provide more information, but has not followed up with the father any further.

Benwayne and Noah are of the view that the ATF is trying to create a firearms registry. As Williams called attention to, “Anytime a gun shop closes or is ordered out of business, they must mail years of records to the ATF.”

“They’re building a gun registry, and that’s illegal,” Benwayne commented. “If you want to build a registry, the easiest way to do it is to have gun dealers supply their records. That’s the quickest way for them to find out who has what kind of guns. If they shut down a 46-year-old store that’s had thousands of sales, all of a sudden, they’ve got a lot of records.”

The goal here is to shut down gun dealers, thereby reducing the overall gun supply. Gun Control Inc. knows that highly polarized Congress can’t pass any gun control measures at the moment. So it will have to settle for using the anti-gun bureaucracy to implement its anti-freedom agenda.

The ATF is the perfect institution to do the trick, given that it’s anti-democratic, can have its budget expanded at will, and its functionaries can’t be held accountable by voters during election time. At this juncture, we can no longer afford to let the ATF exist in its current form.

Any serious pro-Second Amendment advocate would at the very minimum call for defunding this agency. Ideally, we would completely abolish it.
