David Codrea of AmmoLand News highlighted the case of State Senator Matt Dolan who introduced a “gun safety” bill that features a red flag gun confiscation order and stronger background checks. Both of these anti-Second Amendment provisions would put the Buckeye State one step closer to Gun Control Inc's goal of civilian disarmament.
One of the amusing parts about Dolan’s gun grab is how the State Senator prefaced his anti-gun proposal with the tired “I support the Second Amendment, but” trope. He insisted that this bill would protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.
This rhetoric is fine and dandy but simple math shows that passing additional gun control only puts us closer to total civilian disarmament i.e. the total destruction of the Second Amendment.
The only good news is that Dolan will be term-limited in 2024. However, term limited politicians can be very dangerous given how they have the ability to vote their conscience and not even have to worry about facing voter backlash. These types of politicians often leave nasty stink bombs as parting gifts.
Hopefully, gun owners in the Buckeye State make sure to dash any of Dolan’s future political aspirations. Ohio has been moving in a solid pro-gun direction after it passed Constitutional Carry in 2021.
According to AZ Defenders, Ohio is ranked in 31st place according to its Gun Friendly Index (GFI). Obviously, the state has work to do on gun policy. Its passage of Constitutional Carry is obviously a good first step.
However, the presence of politicians like Dolan shows that Ohio is still not a bastion for the Second Amendment. Second Amendment supporters in the state will need to sufficiently purge the Republican Party of pro-gun control elements if it wants to fully restore the right to bear arms.
