New York is Trying to Ignore the Bruen Supreme Court Decision by Passing Unconstitutional Gun Permit Laws

Many blue states are beginning to defy the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen Supreme Court decision. We must always remember that these states that cater to leftist interests are in the business of accumulating power no matter what. Sometimes they’ll use tactical federalism and appeals to states’ rights to advance their cause. 
 
New York state is leading the way in terms of defying this Supreme Court decision. New York’s latest gun control package is going into effect next week. Gun control researcher John Lott contends that this law “turns New York into a giant ‘gun-free zone’.” In addition, this law will force individuals to go through an in-person interview with law enforcement officials and share all of their social media accounts in order to acquire a gun license. 
 
But it also requires an in-person interview with law enforcement and the sharing of all social media accounts in order to obtain a gun license.
 
Lott argued that by establishing a “good moral character” for obtaining a gun license New York State is going against the Bruen decision. In a court filing she recently made, New York Attorney General Letitita James asserted that without these requirements in place, an “entirely predictable chaos." 
 
Lott noted that Democrats and gun control advocates have expressed similar concerns in the six other states impacted by the Supreme Court’s decision. 
 
Here’s the thing about the Left. They don’t care about the rules and will do whatever they can to obtain power. Sometimes they will even engage in tactical federalism by appealing to states’ rights to slowly regroup and rebuild an anti-gun power base at the local and state level. 
 
This is part of Gun Control Inc’s broader goal to achieve a state of civilian disarmament. It won’t happen in one fell swoop, but it will consist of gradualist measures. 
 
The pro-Second Amendment community can definitely learn from Gun Control Inc. and use similar forms of incrementalism and local political activity to advance pro-gun reforms. At the end of the day, all politics starts locally and the Second Amendment community would be wise to get their backyards in line.
