No matter how anti-gun Left may be, it’s richest constituents will absolutely be finding ways to arm themselves.
The dirty secret about gun control is that it’s a classist policy that overwhelmingly hurts the poor. Gun control regulations effectively price out the poor through their onerous compliance costs and hurdles that they must go through.
But for the rich in Hollywood, gun control regulations are just mere inconveniences that they can afford to leapfrog.
These people in particular are heading towards Beverly Hills’ only gun store, Beverly Hills Guns, so they can get strapped in light of the surging crime taking place in the Los Angeles Metro area. This rise in crime is a national trend, as many cities have gutted law enforcement and have implemented soft-on-crime policies that favor criminals.
According to a Los Angeles Magazine report, “Since opening in July 2020, the store has seen upscale residents from Santa Monica to the Hollywood Hills increasingly in a panic following several high-profile smash-and-grab and violent home invasion robberies.”
Beverly Hills Guns owner Russell Stuart claims “prominent actors, real estate moguls and film execs” are among the prominent individuals rushing to his store to acquire firearms for self-defense.
“This morning I sold six shotguns in about an hour to people that say, ‘I want a home defense shotgun,'” Stuart stated. “Everyone has a general sense of constant fear, which is very sad. We’re used to this being like Mayberry.”
In addition, Stuart also helps his customers find local ranges where they can develop their firearm skills. On top of that, he helps people obtain concealed carry licenses if they’re interested in carrying a firearm.
Last month, The Guardian reported that in Los Angeles alone, “more than $330,000 in goods were stolen in 11 ‘smash and grab’ incidents over about two weeks.”
AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News also pointed out that Jamie McBride, the director of the Los Angeles Police Protective League Director, told CBSLA that people should not come to Los Angeles because of the rising crime engulfing the city.
McBride stated at the beginning of December, “My message to anyone thinking about coming to Los Angeles, especially during the holiday season, is don’t.”
He continued, “We can’t guarantee your safety. It is really, really out of control. I said it to people before, it’s like that movie ‘Purge,’ you know, instead of 24 hours to commit your crime, these people have 365 days days to commit whatever they want.”
It’s time to recognize that even the anti-gun segments of America’s richest people, will still desire security. They’ll either get it through private security or pull enough strings to acquire concealed carry licenses in states with draconian gun control laws.
Those are the many privileges America’s wealthiest enjoy in jurisdictions that trample the freedoms of everyday Americans.
It cannot be stressed enough how Second Amendment advocates should emphasize the classist nature of gun control. These are policies that hurt America’s working class due to how the regulations price out Americans of humbler economic stature. These people can’t afford to jump through these regulatory hoops, much less acquire private security services.
