Kathy Hochul Declares that Good Guys with Firearms Don’t Stop Armed Criminals

Last week, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced several gun control laws going into effect across the Empire State. Apart from the gun-grabbing measures she gushed over, Hochul boldly proclaimed that good guys with firearms do not stop bad guys.

“This whole concept that a good guy with a gun will stop the bad guys with a gun, it doesn’t hold up. And the data bears this out, so that theory is over,” she remarked, per a report https://www.foxnews.com/politics/gov-hochul-declares-days-good-guy-gun-theory-are-over by Fox News.

The funny part is that there are many incidents where law-abiding citizens use firearms against criminals in self-defense. AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News highlighted the following high-profile defensive gun use cases that are conveniently ignored by Gun Control Inc:

On August 9, 2022, Breitbart News pointed to an incident in West Palm Beach, Florida, where a 22-year-old man retrieved a gun from his car and allegedly threatened to “shoot the crowd up.” A concealed carrier pulled his own and shot the would-be attacker dead before any innocents were harmed.

A 22-year-old concealed carrier stopped a mass shooter in his tracks in Indiana’s Greenwood Park Mall on July 17.

WTHR noted the attacker began shooting in the mall’s food court at 5:56 p.m. Sunday and the concealed carrier, Elisjsha Dicken, responded by opening fire on the attacker at 5:57.

The attacker tried to run for cover as Dicken fired at him but collapsed to the floor, fatally injured by Dicken’s rounds.

These are but a brief snapshot of the millions of defensive gun use cases that take place in America on an annual basis. According to the extensive research that criminologists such as Gary Kleck and Marc Gertz have conducted, 2.2 to 2.5 million cases of defensive gun use occur annually. Of these cases that these criminologists have studied, 1.5 to 1.9 million cases involved individuals using handguns in self-defense cases.

Overall, defensive gun use cases are normal occurrences throughout America. They arguably keep many neighborhoods safe when law enforcement can’t be expected to do so.

We must always remember that armed lawful individuals are still the most effective first responders against violent criminals. When seconds count, the police are still minutes away.
