Candidate for Washington’s 3rd Congressional District, Joe Kent, has put the Washington State legislature on blast in response to the passage of a ban on magazines that hold over 10 rounds. In the statement, he discusses the reasons that the Second Amendment was adopted, concluding that our right to bear arms is the only thing standing in the way of COVID-tyranny, like what has been seen in Australia.
Anybody who is paying attention surely has noticed the intense government repression that Australians have faced in the past two years. After shutting down the entire country, the government criminalized any protest against their decision (while allowing those with “approved opinions” to gather). In a 2021 protest, things got so bad that over 200 people were arrested at one protest in Melbourne.
Kent contends that citizens having he right to keep and bear arms is what prevents such intense repression from occurring in the United States.
And he has the agreement of the founding fathers, with George Mason stating that “to disarm the people” would be the “best and most effectual way to enslave them.”
Kent spoke to Pro-Gun News to discuss further, telling us that Australia doomed themselves to this tyranny when they gave up their right to defend themselves.
“The Second Amendment is there to protect all of our other God given rights," Kent began. "Without it, the regime would be able to intern, expel, or do worse to any group that is noncompliant. Australians let the government remove their ability to defend themselves and now they are at the mercy of corrupt authoritarian rulers.”
His argument does make sense considering that the states with the most restrictions on firearm ownership are the states with the most COVID-19 restrictions as well.
Kent is the Trump-endorsed candidate in a race against Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, one of ten Republicans who voted to impeach President Donald Trump in the wake of January 6th. Kent served in the military for over twenty years with 11 combat deployments. He left the military in 2019 after his wife, Shannon Kent, was killed fighting ISIS in Syria.
