Gavin Newsom Signed 10 Gun Control Laws in July

California has been on an anti-gun legislative spree in this past month.

According to a New York Times report, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law 10 gun control bills in the month of July 2022 alone.

“This month alone, Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed into law more than 10 new firearm restrictions. These include fresh limits on gun advertising to minors; increased inspections of dealers; and a 10-year ban on firearm possession for those convicted of child abuse or elder abuse,” the report outlined.

In addition, the NYT observed that the most recent gun control measure signed by Newsom was one that gives Californians the ability “to sue anyone who distributes banned assault weapons or ghost guns.” This bill received Newsom’s signature on July 22, 2022.

AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News observed that this recently signed California law resembles a Texas law that empowers private citizens to “sue physicians, drivers or anyone else who aids a woman in receiving an abortion for $10,000.”
In a tweet, Newsom’s office stated, “California will be the first state to allow individuals to sue those spreading illegal assault weapons and ghost guns. If states like Texas can use laws to put women in harm’s way, then California will use that authority to protect lives.”

Curiously, as Hawkins called attention to, two days in the aftermath of Newsom signing this gun control bill, a gunman shot at least three people at a car show in San Pedro, California.

California is one of America’s most prominent anti-gun bastions. According to pro-civilian disarmament group Giffords, California was one of the first states in the nation to adopt red flag gun confiscation orders. For that, and a series of other gun control laws passed in the Golden State, Giffords gave California an “A” rating.

Hawkins noted that “FBI data shows California was also the number one state for “active shooter incidents” in 2021.”

California is a safe space for Gun Control Inc. At this point, gun owners in California face tough options. Sure, federal courts can deliver solid victories against unconstitutional gun grabs. However, they can’t always be relied on to deliver victories.

For many gun owners in the Golden State, pursuing statewide reform is an act of futility in a state that functions more like a one-party state. That perhaps may compel many right-wing Californians to move to a more pro-gun red state where they can enjoy more gun rights and more feasibly restore their Second Amendment rights.

For those who will stay in California and fight back, the most pragmatic way to do so is by heading to the exurbs and rural areas and building local power bases there to nullify unconstitutional laws that are passed at either the state or federal level.

All in all, things don’t look good for the right to bear arms in the Golden State.  Though the challenges that lie ahead are no excuse for giving up. When we throw in the towel, the forces of tyranny win.
