On Facebook she published her State House announcement, where she stated:
I’M DECLARING MY CANDIDACY TO REPRESENT FLORIDA HOUSE DISTRICT 11!
The Great President Ronald Reagan said it best when he stated that our country will be weakened from within spiritually, morally, and economically. It is time for real fighters to step up and answer the call.
Time after time, we the people watch as Democrats slowly encroach on our constitutional freedoms such as our Second Amendment. Here in the state of Florida, with a Republican controlled House and Senate, Gun Rights bills get killed in Committees by RINOs while Gun Control bills get passed into law. It is time for those with the moral courage to stand up and fight for what is right.
I am tired of the career politicians and insiders in Tallahassee who continually band together for personal gain. It’s time for your wants and needs to be properly represented and to drain the Tallahassee swamp. I have filed to be your next State Representative and to protect the rights of the people and oppose the unconstitutional mandates our government put into effect before.
Nunez is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. She served in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. She subsequently received an undergraduate degree from Auburn University in Business Administration and Master’s degree in Business Administration. In the present, she is a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor who assists small businesses with designing, implementing, and managing qualified retirement plans across Florida. She is also the third Vice President of the Federate Republican Women of Nassau County.
Nunez will be challenging incumbent Republican State Representative Cord Byrd, who allegedly killed Florida’s Constitutional Carry in 2021. The bill in question, House Bill 123, was stuck in the Public Safety and Criminal Justice subcommittee last year. HB 123 ultimately died, but there was a silver lining in HB 123’s death. Namely, Byrd was removed as committee Chair after he took significant grassroots criticism for killing this bill.
Now, he could potentially be vulnerable thanks to his devious move to kill Constitutional Carry. Nunez has the right mindset in challenging Byrd. The only language that establishment Republicans understand is outside pressure. When they’re confronted with credibly primary challengers, they either get unseated or are forced to change their behavior to prevent future incidents of political pain.
Ultimate, grassroots pressure is all about changing politicians’ legislative behavior.
A candidate like Nunez is the ideal individual to get this process rolling and remind the political class in Tallahassee that it must pass Constitutional Carry, lest it wants to face the anger of grassroots voters.
