Nevertheless, there are still sufficient numbers of gun owners even in blue states such as Colorado who will offer genuine resistance to Gun Control Inc. As a result, Colorado’s state legislature is not always capable of passing gun control legislation.
Much to our dismay, Gun Control Inc. is creative when it comes to the avenues it pursues to pass civilian disarmament schemes. For example, gun controllers will use local governments to advance their anti-Second Amendment agenda.
In the case of Colorado, the city of Edgewater is showing this localist approach to gun control per a report by Tom Knighton of Bearing Arms.
With one vote in opposition, the Edgewater city council overwhelmingly prohibited the open carry of firearms earlier this month. Of particular note in this case was how one council member tried to link the carry of firearms ro white supremacy.
Edgewater is a home-rule municipality in Jefferson County, Colorado. It has a population of 5,000 and 10.7% of the population are not foreign born citizens.
Unsurprisingly, Edgewater’s city council passed this measure with relative ease. One of the most interesting points about this vote was how city council member Hannah Gay Keao previously suggested that language be added to the ordinance arguing that gun violence can be linked to white supremacy. Additionally, another council member, Liam Donevan, linked white supremacy to right-wing politics.
“I would propose the language say, ‘Whereas the city council finds that open carrying of firearms, during the times of civil protest and unrest tends to exacerbate rather than ameliorate the harm of white supremacy and the potential for violence and death.’”
Donevan was in agreement with Gay Keao’s proclamation but he believed that it was not germane to the ordinance in this question. “Overwhelmingly, mass shootings are perpetrated by individuals who are motived by a far-right ideology and white supremacy,” Donevan declared. “I agree this is an essential and important part of that conversation, I just don’t know if that is part of the impetus for this specific legislation and the goal of our efforts more broadly.”
And that’s how pretty much all political discourse has devolved into the present. There’s zero room for nuance or intelligence, for that matter, when it comes to debating sensitive political subjects.
The problem here is that Gun Control Inc. is not in the business of good faith debate. They want to dominate their opposition. Plain and simple. One way they will do so is by trying to discredit the Second Amendment by connecting it to white supremacy and other extremist concepts.
For some time, the gun controllers have promoted anti-white politics to advance their anti-American agenda. Demonizing and dispossessing the core population of America are some of the key steps towards destroying the nation from within. That same approach is now being applied to the war on the Second Amendment.
Gun owners should not let these radical leftist iconoclasts bully them. They should stand firm and make it clear that the Second Amendment is part and parcel of the American tradition. And no amount of blood libel from the corporate press and fanatic gun control activists will change that.
