Chuck Schumer Announces New Gun Grab Program

On January 30, 2022, Chuck Schumer called on the federal government to grant New York at least $1.5 billion to assist getting illegal guns off the streets.

Schumer argued that the new Interstate Task Force on Illegal Guns, which is being led by Governor Kathy Hochul, will only work if federal officials and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has the necessary resources to “choke off crime.”

“The ABCs of beating back the scourge of gun violence depends on three federal letters: A, T and F,” he asserted at a press conference in Manhattan.

This task force counts on representation from over 50 groups across New York and neighboring states. It was announced on January 23, the day following the killings of two NYPD officers, that this task force would be created.

Politicians said the goal of this task force is to combat gun trafficking and traffickers by “jamming the pipeline.” The group will be concentrated on data-sharing, crime gun tracing, and intel gathering, according to Ben Kesslen of The New York Post.

“I am pushing for $1.5 billion dollars in federal funds for the agency, so they can help with this work and do much more at the national level,” the senator stated. “Without the $1.5 billion … these plans will not have their full impact, and we need full impact to address the flow of these crime guns in our communities and across our state.”

Schumer has plans of locking in the federal money during Senate negotiations this week. This past weekend Schumer indicated that the issue is on his “front-burner.”

Mayor Eric Adams recently launched a plainclothes NYPD unit that’s tasked with stopping gun violence in the city. It’s an updated version of the anti-crime unit that was disbanded by the administration of previous Mayor Bill de Blasio after allegations of rampant abuse and police misbehavior.

Adams has vowed to fire officers for misconduct. This past weekend he admonished them, “If you don’t follow the law, you’re not going to serve in my police department.”

Tackling gun crime is fine and dandy. However, it’s ultimately a question of cracking down on criminals, those who perpetuate violent crime. New York has dropped the ball with regards to its soft-on-crime policies and is experiencing a massive crime wave at the moment.

This has nothing to do with gun control. In fact, by passing gun control, New York is only making lawful citizens become juicier victims for violent criminals who can now prey upon disarmed targets.

Unfortunately, New York’s left liberal leadership doesn’t care for individual liberties like the Second Amendment and will continue trucking along until they’re stopped in their tracks through firm political resistance.
