California Attorney General's Leak of Gun Owner Information Shows the Dangers of Gun Registration

Towards the end of June, there was a controversial data leak from California Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office that exposed the private and personal details of concealed carry permit holders in the state.

However, as Cam Edwards of Bearing Arms reported, the leak “was far more extensive than his office first admitted.”

On June 29, 2022, Bonta’s office admitted that on top of the concealed carry records, which featured the drivers license numbers, full names, and home addresses of all concealed carry permit applicants. Edwards noted that other databases that the AG’s office were in charge of were also open and available for downloading for an unspecified amount of time that week.

On June 29, 2022, Nic Garcia of ABC 7 observed that this data breach “also extended to the Assault Weapon Registry, Handguns Certified for Sale, Dealer Record of Sale, Firearm Certificate Safety, and Gun Violence Restraining Order dashboards.”

“This unauthorized release of personal information is unacceptable and falls far short of my expectations for this department,” declared Attorney General Rob Bonta.

In light of this incident, Bonta launched an investigation into this data leak.

“It’s concerning anytime information that specific is released to the public,” declared Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims. “Of course, what we tell the public all the time is to protect your personal information.”

Per a report by the Los Angeles Times, the leaked information contains a whole decade of data on gun owners and individuals who applied for concealed carry permits.

The California State Sheriffs’ Association said it was “alarmed” about the news of this breach.

“It is infuriating that people who have been complying with the law have been put at risk by this breach,” declared Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea, the California State Sheriffs’ Association president. “California’s sheriffs are very concerned about this data breach and the risk it poses to California’s CCW permit holders.”

Clearly, the Left finds every way possible to harass gun owners. Even when they lose legislatively, they turn to subversive means that are criminal and even borderline terroristic in nature to attack people’s right to bear arms.

And the state does nothing to address it. We live in an anarcho-tyranny state where the state lets the real criminals run loose and innocent people get penalized.

California gun owners will need to band together and form their own associations that not only promote the safe use of firearms and lobby to change public policy, but also provide a common defense against leftist mobs.

The Second Amendment is now a matter of self-preservation for many lawful Americans. Hopefully, this leak doesn’t result in gun owners getting unjustly harassed or even worse.

If worse comes to worse, gun owners must be ready to neutralize their assailants if their lives are put in danger because of this leak.
