Alabama State Representative Says he has Enough Votes to Pass Constitutional Carry

2021 has been the year of Constitutional Carry. With states like Iowa, Montana, Texas, Tennessee, and Utah passing Constitutional Carry, there’s a Second Amendment tidal wave sweeping across the nation. Now there are 21 states where lawful gun owners no longer must beg the government for permission to exercise their God-given right to self-defense.

2022 appears to be a year where Constitutional Carry will continue making progress. For example, Alabama could be one of the next states to embrace this pro-liberty reform. Alabama State Representative Shane Stringer believes that he has enough votes to pass Constitutional Carry in the upcoming 2022 legislative session.

Stringer believes that law-abiding Alabamians shouldn’t have to acquire a permit to carry a concealed handgun due to how the Second Amendment already guarantees its right. Under Stringer’s Constitutional Carry bill, the state’s current pistol permit requirement would be scrapped.

“Alabama is already an open carry state. You can walk outside your house with a gun on your side, as long as it’s open. If it’s wintertime, and you put a coat over it, you need a permit,” declared Stringer.

If Alabama were to pass Constitutional Carry, it would become the 22nd state to pass said law. In addition, it would improve Alabama’s gun laws. According to Guns & Ammo magazine’s rankings for the best states for gun owners and concealed carry, Alabama is ranked in 18th place and 21st place respectively.

With how unpopular the Biden administration is and its gun control agenda going nowhere, backlash from below is festering. This type of backlash can constructively be channeled at state legislatures through campaigns to pass Constitutional Carry.

We often forget that when Barack Obama took in office in 2009, there were only 2 Constitutional Carry states. Fast forward to 2021, we now have 21 states that have restore the right to carry. If trends continue, 2022 could potentially see a couple of more states adopt Constitutional Carry.

When there’s an anti-gun president in power, it’s much easier to mobilize pro-Second Amendment forces.
