Will Florida Grassroots Supporters Need to Embarrass RINOs?

All eyes are on the Florida State Legislature in 2022. With increased calls for passing Constitutional Carry in the Sunshine State, many people are speculating about Florida becoming the 2022 state with said law.

While this would be positive news, we should always remember that passing such legislation is no walk in the park. Republicans, ironically, tend to be some of the largest obstacles. To be sure, Democrats can always be expected to offer stiff opposition. However, squishy Republicans, are the most insidious of the bunch in how they opposed such legislation in the shadows.
Certain elected officials such as Florida Governor DeSantis appear to get this trend within the Republican Party.

Luis Valdes, the Florida Director of Gun Owners of America, highlighted DeSantis’ State of the State address. In this address, DeSantis declared

I also recommend that the legislature strengthen protections of Floridians’ Second Amendment rights. These important rights should not depend on the whims of politicians who reject the existence of those rights in the first place.

DeSantis has made waves by stating that he would sign Constitutional Carry if it reaches his desk. However, Valdes illustrates that Constitutional Carry reaching DeSantis’ desk is no lock. In fact, could potentially be quite the chore due to how the Florida Republican establishment is not keen on passing that legislation.

Valdes observed:

The problem is, the very politicians that reject the existence of Floridians’ Second Amendment rights are the ones running the legislature. Politicians such as Senate President Wilton Simpson (R) and House Speaker Chris Sprowls (R) have never been supporters of constitutional carry in the Sunshine State.

Additionally, Valdes called attention to how State Representative Cord Byrd, the Republican chairman of the Criminal Justice & Public Safety Subcommittee, killed Constitutional Carry. Valdes argued that Byrd did so “under the implicit directions of Speaker Sprowls.”

This is the same committee where House Bill 103, 2022’s Constitutional Carry bill, is currently in. The House Criminal Justice & Public Safety Subcommittee is now chaired by Chuck Brannan III.

Anthony Sabatini, the most pro-Second Amendment representative in the State House, smoked out a recent plot in the State House to kill Constitutional Carry.

In a tweet storm he dropped on January 11, Sabatini revealed:

"1/2  UPDATE: The NEW LIE peddled by RINOs in Tallahassee is:
'Constitutional Carry can’t be heard in Committee yet because no Senator has filed a counterpart bill
TOTALLY FALSE
There is NO RULE, procedure, or tradition preventing the House from passing Constitutional Carry…"

Sabatini added:

2/2  …moreover, a Senate Constitutional Carry bill can be created at ANY TIME in what’s called a “proposed committee bill”—also known as a PCB.

These Politicians think voters are stupid—which is why they try to confuse people with lies about legislative procedure.

Generally speaking, politicians will kill legislation in committee without bringing it up for a vote as a way to avoid voter accountability.

Let’s face it, politicians try to avoid controversial votes as much as possible. In Florida’s case, they will likely try to kill the Constitutional Carry bill in committee.

Florida gun owners must pick up on this fast and direct as much pressure on the House Criminal Justice & Public Safety Subcommittee as possible. They will need to use emails, robocalls, livecalls, and petitions to make sure committee members don’t pull any shenanigans that would capsize said legislation.

One simply cannot rely on politicians to restore our freedoms out of the goodness of their hearts. They will need firm and constant reminders from the grassroots to do the right thing.
