According to a report by AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News , a Legal Bureau Bulletin that the New York Police Department (NYPD) put forward instructs officers to treat people carrying handguns as criminals “until proven otherwise.” This is a complete subversion of the right to due process.
This August 2022 bulletin was revealed as several new areas in the Empire State have been deemed “sensitive.” In these areas, concealed carry is prohibited even for individuals who hold concealed carry permits.
These anti-gun carveouts are just the latest strategy the New York ruling class is employing in order to ignore the Supreme Court’s pro-gun ruling.
The NYPD document was leaked and eventually obtained by Project Veritas. As Hawkins observed, police are now being instructed to “presume that any gun being carried by someone other than an officer is being carried illegally.”
The document stated the following: “The Supreme Court decision does not change the way the Department conducts investigative encounters. People who are carrying firearms in New York State are presumed to be doing so unlawfully, until proven otherwise.”
New York is one of the most anti-gun states in the nation. According to AZ-Defenders’ Gun Friendly Index (GFI), New York is in a horrific 50th place. The fact that it’s ignoring the Supreme Court decision is to be expected.
At this juncture, pro-gun New Yorkers need to retreat to the rural parts of the state and start revolting against the gun control regime in Albany by nullfying unconstitutional gun control laws. These times of unprecedented government overreach require creative ways of combating state infringements on the right to bear arms.
