Texas Congressman Michael Cloud has pushed the envelope recently by introducing the NO REGISTRY Rights Act. According to AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News, “The act is designed to force the ATF to delete all the records it has accumulated on firearm sales/transfers.” The overall aim of Cloud’s bill is to scrap the ATF’s de facto gun registry.
What the ATF is doing is not a trivial matter. It’s engaging in highly illegal behavior that could affect millions of American gun owners. Dudley Brown, the president of the National Association Gun Rights, released an email on March 14, 2022 detailing how the ATF has been able to gather massive records of gun owners over the past few decades:
All in all, the total number of records the ATF now holds is nearly ONE BILLION! Under the 1993 Brady Bill, which created the so-called “National Instant Check System” (NICS), record keeping for firearm sales was NEVER to be conducted by the federal government.
Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie and Virginia Congressman Bob Good have also supported this bill.
At a press conference discussing the ATF’s registration project, Breitbart journalist Matt Perdie asked the Republican congressmen about Republicans who have still not gotten down with the anti-ATF program.
Perdie asked the following question:
Good gave an excellent response to Perdie’s question. He called on voters to primary every Republican who does not stand against the ATF gun registration system.“I think there are a lot of American conservatives out there who would like to know why there are Republicans who have weak knees with a bill like this, that would keep a firearms registry from happening in the federal government. What incentives do these Republicans have?”
The Virginia congressman is onto something here. If we want to see any meaningful political changes in politics, we will have to get rid of awful incumbents. One of the best ways to do so is by using the primary system to discipline bad incumbents and set the tone for a pro-gun agenda. This is where the grassroots Right will have its strongest impact.
